What others say about EGYPT as an outsourcing destination?

For several years, Egypt has been moving up the rankings in some of the ICT sector’s most influential reports, including those published by A.T. Kearney, Yankee Group and Datamonitor as well as the world renowned Global Services-Tholons Study which looks at the outsourcing industry’s emerging global cities. However, it is only in the last couple of years that Egypt has really made an impact in these, highlighting that Egypt is no longer one of the industry’s best kept secrets and that it is firmly establishing itself as a global hotspot for business process outsourcing.
In 2008, Yankee Group listed Egypt as the best positioned country in the Middle East to capitalize on the region’s booming ICT sector and the country’s capital, Cairo, was listed 7th - up from 11th in 2007 - in the Global Services-Tholons Study of the top 50 emerging global outsourcing cities. Egypt has also topped the World Bank’s list of reformers in 2006/2007 (previous high was 6th in 2004/2005) as a result of its reforms to labor, investment and intellectual property laws which have fuelled the country’s growth.
These reports not only demonstrate the leaps that Egypt has made in terms of infrastructure, talent and attractiveness as an outsourcing destination but show the world what Egypt has to offer local and multinational companies.

Business Monitor, Egypt information technology report Q3 2007.
With Egypt’s IT market size expected by BMI to be on course to increase a value of around US$1.3bn in 2011, from US$889mn in 2006, the market is one of the most promising in the MEA region over the forecast period. With strong real GDP growth likely over the next five years, led in part by two sectors with huge potential for IT vendors (real estate and telecommunications), as well as growing foreign investment, strong growth in IT revenues is likely. Egypt’s rise up the regional IT rankings as revealed in BMI’s regional overview is being fuelled by regional trade liberalisation with around 40% of the direct investments fuelling spending in key verticals such as telecom and finance coming from GCC countries. The same trend is also stimulating new spending by smaller and medium companies on applications, hardware and services with predictions from regional distributors that Egypt could soon surpass regional giants the UAE and Saudi Arabia for computer sales. Yankee Group Report - Is the Future Bright for Outsourcing IT Services to Egypt?
Is Egypt the India of the Middle East? That’s the reputation the Egyptian government and business community hope will take hold as the country aggressively enters the lucrative and fast-growing offshore outsourcing market.
The offshore outsourcing market continues to be a strong and resilient one for those regions that successfully enter it. Egypt, a relatively new entrant to this segment, has some unique advantages—as well as some significant hurdles it must overcome if it wants to reap the economic benefits of outsourcing opportunities. India continues to be an outsourcing behemoth, leading the offshore outsourcing market both in IT outsourcing (ITO) and business process outsourcing (BPO). Currently, India holds about 60% of the overall offshore market, with revenue climbing to more than $6 billion last year in the BPO sector alone, and $22 billion in overall revenue. But other regions have been threatening India’s dominance in the offshore outsourcing sector, most notably
China, Latin America and Eastern Europe. Can Egypt make a strong showing as well? Here are some of the factors that will help and hinder Egypt… to read more click here.
